Hi, Have a low water level problem it seems. Reading other posts on subject, but can't find a solution.

Here's a descrption;

Unit growls and gurgles when in wash mode. Fill and pump-out have normal sounds. It doesn't appear to be a mechanical metal on metal sound or dishes hitting. Cleaned out sump and spun motor through sump by hand. It turned freely and had nothing wraped around or traped. Cleaned all spray arm holes. Some were clogged.

One post suggested low water level may cause this by sucking air into pump. On my unit, water level just barely reachs bottom of float cover. Removed float cover after main fill and again just barely touchs bottom of float. Float was resting on bottom of tub. Tub is level. Float rod and micro switch move freely. Another post said to check water valve inlet screen. Removed valve and it's clean. Plenty of volume and presure coming out of supply hot water line (3/8 copper tubing). Looking in tub when it's doing main fill (held door interlock closed) and water comes out of left side fill hole. Water stream makes it a lttle less than half way across tub.

One thought is that control module may be timing out fill cycle early before tub is fully filled and before fill float switch activates, but don't know how to test this. Perhaps water value is not opening fully?

Is there a reset for control module? I know how to get into service trouble shoot mode.

There's a fair amount of lime and calcium build up. Plan to use citric acid to clean.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I'm at a loss as to why unit is growling/gurgling and why water level is low.

Hi, Thanks for your quick responce. I made a typo. GE Model number is GHDA485N00CS.

Fill valve was remover and there was no clogging of filter. Very clean.

I added a quart of water to tub after fill and it made no diffrence in sound.

I'm confused as to what the correct water level high should be. GE website has this info....

Models that do not have an extending wash tower in the bottom spray arm:

"The edge of the water should be up to the mid-point of the flood float cover located in the front left-hand corner of the tub".
This can't be correct for this model as this is way to high and dishwasher would flood.

Mini Manual I found on line which I believe is for this model states:


Amount of Water

– Make sure dishwasher is level. Check water level, allowing dishwasher to fill normally for first fill. The water level should be to the center of the bottom of the float dome. If water level is low, check for clogged screen in water valve and check float switch.

I do not understand what "to the Center of bottom of float dome" means.

Any ideas???

Looking at another post on this site, it said water level "should be touching the float cover notch located at the bottom 3 o'clock position of cover". This seems to be the level I'm seeing in my unit.

Any idea which statment is correct???

After cleaning unit the noise now appears to be a combination of rattling and growling.
