A sheet of ice forms at the bottom of the freezer. This is a built in freezer only. The refrigerator is a separate unit.
There is front on the entire evap, but it appears to be normal. The ice builds up to the bottom of the evap. There is a groove melted in the ice and the defrost heater is fuller visible with no ice, so I think everything is normal with the defrost. I think the ice just builds up slowly from it not draining. There is ice formation all the way into the drain hole.
The drain just consists of a hole in the bottom. The bottom of the refrigerator is molded plastic that forms a drain pan. I cleaned out the drain and poured water down it and everything drained smoothly. It took about a month for it to ice up again to the point where water started leaking on the floor again.
I cleaned everything out again. This time I wrapped a piece of wire around the heater and fed it into the drain. I'm hoping this will stop the ice formation.
Is there anything else that could be causing this? It did not do this for the first 2 years of operation.

I am assuming that you have not had a problem since you added the wire.
There can be a couple reasons why it worked OK for the first couple years but now has problems.
The drain line could be partially plugged, slowing down draining. Sometimes crud can grow in the drain line. Flushing it with a bleach solution usually kills the stuff and then it can be flushed out. But you have poured water down it and it seems OK.
A film of crud can develop on the floor under the evaporator coils leading to the drain. This slows down the draining and lets some of the water freeze. a good cleaning with soap and water should remove this. Also a coating of wax in this area often speeds up the draining. |

It has only been a couple of days since I added the wire. I'm going to pull the panel in a week or so to check for ice buildup. I will try cleaning it and adding wax.
Do you know where I can order viking parts? I've ordered parts from this site in the past, but they don't seem to carry viking parts. I just need a drawer guide/slide.
