Hello, I purchased a nearly new(scratch and dent) Frigidaire Frost Free Upright model FFU146FW0. The digital display on the back wall has settings that start at 1 and go up to warmer temps. I put a thermometer on the shelf and it registered 10 degrees F. I cannot adjust the control any lower. I am concerned that it will not go to 0 degrees. It sounds fine and feels cold inside. Does the thermostat need replacing? Thanks for any answers. Nancy

Feel the condenser on the back it should be warm from top to bottom. If so this indicates that it’s refrigerating. Check to see if the fan is running and check the door gasket to see if it’s sealing properly. It may just have to run longer to reach 0. Frost Free Freezer Repair Guide

Thanks for taking the time to reply. Unfortunately, I am unable to move the freezer in order to check the back. The seal seems fine. It is new- so I expected that to be OK. As the freezer will not go down to zero, I guess it is a defective thermostat or something- so- the answer seems to be to get a replacement unless the serviceman can guarantee 100% on a part replacement. Thanks, Nancy

If the freezer is running pretty much continually I wouldn’t think that it’s the control. If the control is cutting the freezer off prematurely I would look at the control. I am thinking that the freezer is having trouble reaching the temperature and the control has nothing to do with that. Also if the freezer is cutting out before your thermometer reaches 0 (indicating the control is bad) I would also question the accuracy of your thermometer before I replace the control.

Thanks! The freezer runs and then stops regularly so I have no idea if it is cutting off prematurely or not- I had an old Kenmore before this and it was so quiet I never learned about how other freezers operate. I agree that a thermometer can be inaccurate so I used two of them and they both registered at 10 degrees F. I'll have the service guy check out the control. Thanks for letting me know what to ask about and how you go about determining it. Very helpful! Right now it's a toss up between having him fix it or exchanging for another one since I bought it through him. Does the Gallery series have a better repair/operating record? Perhaps I should go for a better model. Thanks again, Nancy
