My Maytag MDB7809AWW2 is 2.5 years old and about 3 weeks ago I went to do a load and pressed start and nothing happened. If I pressed the washing cycle buttons they lit up but so did the heated dry option (even though I had not selected it) but they unlit after about 30 seconds.

I shut off the power at the breaker but that did not change anything.

After reading in other forums about these units I ordered a control panel (key pad) W10199785 but I did not test anything first. I realize now that that the test I should have run was to power off at the breaker, disconnect the ribbon from the keypad, power up, close the door, and if the unit runs for a few minutes then replace the keypad. From what I have read with my symptoms it is most likely the keypad.

Since I can't find a tutorial on this unit, my question is this. Does the whole inner door liner have to be removed to remove the keypad or to get at the ribbon cable, on my model or just the 6 bolt's holding the keypad to the door.

I removed those but the keypad didn't budge and the door latch seems to be attached in some way and I didn't see a way to release it. I don't want to force it and break something. I have never done this type of repair before.

Answered the first part of my question. Removed the first 6 screws and dropped the keypad back towards me releasing it away from the door liner.

Now I can't seem to remove the control board cover so that I can remove the ribbon cable to run the diagnostic test. There are 4 tab locks but also all the electrical connectors that seem to need to be removed before removing the cover.

Any tips on removing the cover on this control board?

Does the control board have to be completely removed from the control panel to disconnect the ribbon cable from the control board. To do that it look like al the electrical connections have to be removed then the board unclipped from the panel and taken off. I was just wondering if this is what needs to be done to unplug the ribbon cable to run the diagnostic test with the ribbon cable unplugged. It seems a pretty tight fit especially with the cover on the control board and it looks like all the connections have to be removed to take the cover off.

I was wondering if that is the step by step process if the board can stay in place to remove the ribbon cable or if that need to come out as well before disconnecting it.

Update:

Replaced the control panel (keypad) and now dishwasher works/starts again.

Heated dry now lights up when any of the wash cycles are selected which it didn't before, so I unselect it before starting the cycle. Other than that everything works normally.

These models are prone to premature keypad failures.
