About three months ago our refrigerator became warm. We discovered we had a huge piece of ice formed on our coils when looked behind the freezer panel. We defrosted with a hair dryer and were back to normal. Today we had the same problem again. I suspect the defrost heater is not working properly..but..not an expert and just guessing. Could you tell me what to look for to diagnose this problem please?

Most probable problem is the defrost thermostat, a round item clipped to the top of the evaporator coils.
Temporarily short the item or check it's resistance if you have a meter.
Go to website applianceaid. com to get the manual defrost procedure
If defrost works, that would confirm a bad thermostat.

Ok. Will try.

For what it is worth...I have a repair manual and did the force defrost mode and could hear noise assuming heater is working. Also did service tests 1-6. Defrost Thermostat & Defrost Circuit Test gave me an O for open. Everything else passed or worked.

If the heater worked in manual defrost, then your control board is probably bad. Also, in defrost mode, the compressor stops and the heater comes on and gets very hot, but usually it makes little noise.

One last question. Are there instructions somewhere on on how to install the control board?
