My GE brand dryer will stop working in mid cycle. We moved to this house 4 months ago, so I had to change the 3 prong cord to a 4 prong cord. I had it wired wrong (just found out today), however, I googled the correct way to wire this and I made sure that I removed the green wire (ground) and connected the ground on the new cord to where the ground was connected before. I'm not sure if this has anything to do with this problem or not.

The dryer was heating after I reconfigered the wiring on the cord and did work like it was suppossed to for about 30 minutes. But, it seemed like it got too hot.

The timer is working like it's suppossed to and shut the dryer off.

I did notice that the heating element, would glow orange, then shut off, then heat back up. As I touched the back of the dryer and almost burnt my hand. It seemed like it was too hot.

Before today, after the dryer cools a bit, it will start back up and dry for 30 to 40 minutes. It hasn't started back as of now, since it's only been 20 minutes since it last shut off.

Is there a saftey thermostat on this unit, to where if the unit gets too hot, it will shut the dryer off? If so, could this be the problem.

Or, could the heating element be bad, sending a signal to the safety for shut down to prevent overheating?

Or, could it be my motor is overheating?

Thanks!

Ok, I just tried to start the dryer and it did come back on, after it cooled a bit.

Thanks again!
