Hello,

I've read all possible posts on this site that your search engine can find.

My Whirlpool DU850SWPS2 is dead. There's no sounds or hums no matter what button is pushed or what position of the dial timer. Here's what I checked:

1) breaker on, power in dishwasher terminal box is ok
2) Thermal fuse ok
3) door switches ok
4) timer replaced with new (as repair man said it was the timer)
5) multi-button selector panel tested ok for all switches with all settings.

Could it be the motor? If so wouldn't something else work to indicate some form of life (such as the timer activating the water inlet valve to fill the dishwasher)?

Is it more likely some broken wire somewhere?

Can you please provide a few alternatives to check? I'm wary of ordering any more parts blindly from you until I have more info.

Thanks,
Tom

If it is totally dead and you have checked all those things, I would look for a broken wire in the harness, right where it bends around the tub. Also, inspect the wiring connections where the main power comes in, if you have not already done that. Let me know what you find.

Thanks very much for the quick reply.

I did check the wiring connections where the main power came in (so did the repair man) and they are perfect. Power is getting to the timer (which is now new), and power is getting to the 5 button control panel.

Does that mean there's a broken wire somewhere?

Just to confirm your thoughts on my other questions in my post:

1) would the inlet valve operate even though the motor is dead? I would expect so.
2) Would the motor work if the inlet valve was dead?

Thanks again for the quick help.

Yes, they are independent of each other through the timer. Both the neutral and the power go through the door switches. Did you test for power or continuity because they may show continuity but not carry voltage. If you look at the door switch terminals, does the plastic case look melted right where the metal terminals come out?
