What's causing the noise? I just replaced the pump & motor assembly (pn 3485ED1002B) but the noise persists. Please, help!

I listened to your video, that was very helpful. If you add a gallon of water to the tub manually, does the noise go away? It sounds like there is not enough water for the recirculation process.

Yup! I experimented with this a bit. When I stop the dishwasher (power off) to add water, then turn on again, the extra water is drained off before any cycles begin (noise resumes). When I pause a cycle by opening the door and add water, the noise goes away. Once the cycle is over, it drains of the water I added before starting up again, and the noise returns.

Thoughts?

Okay, so if you allow it to just go through the fill cycle and start washing, how is the water level? Does it seem low? I suspect you have an issue with the water inlet valve. There is a screen in it that may be plugged, not allowing ample water to get through to the tub.

The water level seems to be just below the screen. Is the screen or the perimeter holes the inlet? When I add water, I add enough to cover the screen.

Why do you suppose it's draining off the water I'm adding?

It drains at the start of the cycle, so if you totally stop the machine to add water, the cycle starts over.

I'm probably using the word "cycle" incorrectly. I should define a new term like "spool-up" to mean...

When the pump spools up from a stop and runs for a while. The pump seems to do this dozens of times during each cycle.

Now, if I replaced all the times I previously used "cycle" with "spool-up", it might translate better. My washer drains before each spool-up, so even if I add water during a cycle, it's drained off automatically during the next spool-up (5-10 min later) and the noise resumes.

So is the drain pump actually draining it or could it be siphoning out? Is the drain hose installed with a high loop or air gap?

It's installed with a high loop.

I started it up again this morning. Immediately after filling, even before a first spool-up, it drains some of the water. So, it might be filling the right amount everytime, but draining some of it for some reason.

So can you tell if the drain pump is turning on to drain it out?
