The dryer makes a very loud noise when tou turn it on. One of the vents at the back of the drum has turned black like something was burning. The drum still spins. The dryer showed no sgns of breaking down. It worked fine the day before. Then, the next day we went to use it startd making the loud noise as soon as ir was turned on.

Here are your parts Parts for Whirlpool LEB6300PW0 Dryer - AppliancePartsPros.comWhat kind of noise? Can you isolate the general location in the unit where the noise is coming from? Thumping is often a rear drum support roller. Squealing can be front drum support, idler wheel or motor bearing. Scraping may be something in the blower. The above are just the most common. |

The sound seems to be coming from the back left side. It is a steady growling noise. I opened the door and pressed in the door button so I could run the dryer with the door open. The left vent on the inside back where the drum is, is burnt and there is a glowing behind the left vent when the dryer is on. It is very hot and has a burnt smell.

Could be the back left roller.
Be careful when running with the door open as the unit does not have proper air circulation and will overheat. It could blow the thermal cutoff.
Feel along the rear tub to frame seal. there could be something stuck in there. Be careful in case it is sharp.
You may also have a heater problem. |

There is nothing stuck on the back edge of the drum. The loud noise is coming from behind the drum.

You will have to open the unit up to find the cause.
Has something disappeared off the top of the dryer lately? Could be that something has fallen into the blower. |

I will check the blower out. I know that someone cleaned the lint trap which pulls out on the top of the dryer. Maybe something fell in then. It will be a couple of days before I am able to check it out. I will respond with what I find out. Thank you.

I took the back panel off of the dryer off and turned it on. The noise does not seem to becoming from the blower motor. Is there another motor that turns the drum? How do you get to the drum rollers a roller axels?

Is there another motor that turns the drum? No. The motor has the blower on one end of it's armature and a pulley to run the belt on it's other end. How do you get to the drum rollers a roller axels? Below is a video which I think is basically the same as your unit. Note that if you go to the [parts and click on a part's picture or description a new page will open often with more info and perhaps a Q&A about that part. Once you get it open check the rear rollers, rear seal, front drum support, belt, idler wheel and motor bearings. Part number: AP2946843

I was able to check the rear rollers, rear seal, front drum support, belt, idler wheel. They seem to to be okay. The rear rollers and idler wheel spin freely. Not sure about the motor. Is there some way to check out the motor bearings? When I spin the motor by hand it is hard to tell if there is anything wrong with it. Is there a video on how to change the motor? The sound that the the dryer was making before I took it apart was a loud steady consistent hollow growling noise. Sorry, but it is hard to describe the noise. Thank you for help.
