Hello
My maytag neptune mde3000ayw dryer dial wont move in intellicare position and the more-less sensor lights are both on constant whether clothes are wet or dry. Dryer works fine in timed position. I've read allot but have not run across my particular problem. Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks

Here are your parts includes a wiring diagram Parts for Maytag MDE3000AYW Dryer - AppliancePartsPros.comClean the dryness sensor (item 11 in section 07). The way it works is in an auto mode a voltage is applied across the sensor strips. IF there is moisture etc. between the strips a current flows. The control board senses this current and holds the timer motor off. Once there is no moisture, there is no current and the board then lets the timer advance to off. Try a little soap and water making sure to dry it thoroughly. If that does nothing try isopropyl alcohol, just make sure that the vapors dissipate before trying the dryer. |

When I registered here there was a question; What have you tried so far? I cleaned the sensor with isopropyl alcohol. I thought this would show up in the thread. Anyway I tried that so whats next, could the sensor be bad? I should also check the connection for loose wire since we are starting there. I don't use dryer sheets but I do use fabric softener. I read these cause problems with sensors. Thanks for responding and for the parts list.

A loose wire would make the timer advance not stop it.
You could try measuring from the strips to the unit's frame/ground.
One should be 0 ohms, the other should be infinite ohms.
Use a high meter scale.
Also the resistance between the sensor strips should be infinite.
If the above are OK then odds are that the dry control board is bad. |

I tried what you suggested. All good except between the two bars I do find a little bit of resistance, (not infinite but also not zero). Thanks for defining ohms the way you did. It makes more sense (not much more but more) to me now. I believe this means that the timer will never move, right? Do you still think the control board is bad? Also I did not find that part by the name dry control board. Do you know the part number?

Depends on what you mean by "a little bit of resistance".
I am not sure if it is totally open (infinite ohms) or if there is a very high resistance when the moisture sensor is OK/clean.
Note that even if the front is OK there may be a problem on the back side.

You could disconnect the dryness sensor at the control board (looks like a blue wire if the wiring diagram is correct).
Then give it a try if it still does not advance I would replace the board.
