I recently purchased a house that has (2) GE profile Arctica side by side refrigerator's. The problem with both is the ice maker ice is melting then refreezing. (making a mess) I have seen this is a problem with these units. I have replaced the Thermistor that is on the evaporator coil behind the back panel inside the freezer area. It fixed the problem for about 4 weeks now the same thing is happening again. Could this be a mother board problem? or should I just call GE service?

Pull the motherboard out and check solder joints under the power relay.

Is that a known problem area? Will it be visable if the solder is bad?

Yes, very common and you will be able to see it, a simple fix, low wiring density in the area.

I had GE Service come out for repair. The service tech hooked up a lap top computer to the frig and within 5 min he said the motherboard was bad. I think it was around $550 installed. Hope this helps. Are you having the same issue?

Yes, everything else works well, but if I put the ice on it makes ice, a bit slow I must say, 2 days to get 1/3 to 1/2 a bin, perhaps that's normal. Then all of a sudden I notice a big icicle hanging from the back of the bin because all the ice is melting but freezing as it gets into the freezer. Cleaned all this out, fiddled around switching it on and off and moving the paddle back and forth, switched it back on...same thing two days of ice and then the dreaded icicle. I can really do without spending $550 and here in BC probably a lot more than that too! It might be cheaper to buy a separate counter top ice maker! Any one else solved this problem??
