About a week ago I noticed the ice maker wasn't making ice. Freezer temp setting on 5 and fridge side on 7. After looking online I found how to test/reset the ice maker. I did this part and and it cycles as it should including filling with water (3 min cycle). So, I turned the temp on both sides to 9. That worked a little, meaning I get a little ice but it was clear and only dumped about 3-4 times a day. Yesterday a noticed a thin layer of frost/ice on the back inside of the freezer. So I removed the back panel and saw the coils were covered (solid) in ice from the bottom about half way up. I took a hair dryer and melted all the ice build up and reassembled, set temp back to 5/7. Turned it back on and with in an hour it was making ice.
Another issue I have noticed is that sometimes when the fan is running it kinda sounds like its rubbing on something, ice maybe? Now, about 20 hours later. The ice production has slowed down and becoming clear. I'm think it may be the defrost heater but before I dive in and replace this. I just wanted to see if there is something else I should check?
I dont have a thermometer that goes low enough the check actual temps but I'm going to pick one up today.

Thanks

Most probable problem is the defrost heater, just pull it to check, if it is black inside with an open spot, it's bad.

Thanks for the replies. I was figuring the same thing. Just looking for a second opinion. Ill pull it and check. I need to see if its 9" or 12" anyway. Looks like both sizes come up when I search for the part.

Well, replaced the defrost heater on Monday. The old one was black in the middle and had no continuity. So I thought I was good to go. Now today I noticed the fan is not running? Ill do some testing on the board and see what I come up with. Looking for suggestions?????? Help!

Make sure all connectors are in place behind the freezer panel.
