Our Maytag Bravo X washer makes a loud grinding noise when the agitation kicks in just before the rinse cycle. Seems to only happen with a "heavy" load of laundry (but not overloaded). Noise will go away as the agitation gets going. I have not done anything yet with the exception of determining when it happens. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I tilt the washer back to investigate and notice that the guard for the agitation pulley had belt debris and wear from both belt and pulley. I left the guard off and ran it on "bulk" but without clothes. The sound was worse. As it was running I carefully tilt it back and notice the pulley was not running true, it had a considerable amount of wobble and noise. What could this be from?

The nut holding the pulley on is loose. This is a common problem. Apply loctite blue 242 to the threads and retighten. Snug but do not overtighten. The loose nut allows the pulley to drop causing the pulley and belt to rub on the belt guard.
