My (electric) dryer quit heating up-when I went to unplug the 220 (I had to jiggle it to get it loose) it started to spark-there is a little burnt spot on one of the prongs-is this cord still usable?

Ohm all the wires out and make sure you have no visible signs of burn marks or cracks in the wires. Then check receptacle and make sure your connections are good and that there's no burn marks or damage to the receptacle wires inside. Also make sure you have a ground if you don't have a ground those sparks could of been your life if it didn't go back to the panel while touching the machine.

Are you sure the dryer wasn't still on? Even if not running if something inside dryer was on, the elements for instance and there was a load on that ckt, then it will arc every time you unplug it. And it will absolutely put a burn mark on the prongs. It's because the current is still trying to jump as your unplugging to get to where its trying to go. For sure check your ground. Simplest way is to take a voltmeter and check it from the center ground hole to each of the outside pin holes. If you show 120 +\- volts on each technically your good to go.
