When I turn on any one of the four burners on my G.E. glass cooktop range the Rt. back burner turns on automatically and will not turn off when I turn off the other burner I am using. We have to pull the stove out and unplug the entire stove to shut it off. Is there an easy fix to this issue or do I have to buy another cooktop or stove? The oven works. The other burners work but it somehow triggers this one burner to go on and stay on posing a fire hazard. Has there been a recall on this stove? I bought it on 4-03-06.( serial #: FL253450Q )

Call GE is this a fire hazard or call Sears if you bought it from them and tell them of your problem. Sounds like a recall issue and a serious fire hazard. Whenever i see this problem to remedy it till i get parts in i take the terminals off the burner element that is having the problem and tape them separately really good and ziptie them to something so they don't short out or touch any metal underneath the cooktop.........and replace both the burner switch and the element but as i said call GE first with your complaint and the place you bought it from this is a serious issue and shouldn't be taken lightly.

Thank-you for your information and advice. I did speak with G.E. but they only wanted to sell me another warranty for one year at $239 so they were no help at all. I called the Power Co. Hotline and notified them of the problem and they checked to see if there was a recall on the stove but none was found. We ended up buying a new stove since it was a fire hazard. The Power Co. said they would report the incident to G.E. and it would take 10 days before we would hear from them on the matter.

My suggestion to others, having this similar problem, is to notify their power company's hotline so that this can be reported so to eliminate possible injuries. The hotline also said that it would be between the consumer and G.E. whether or not there would be any kind of monetary settlement.
