A friend has a Maytag lsg1000. The control panel is completely dead - no lights, no response to keypad touches, EXCEPT yesterday the machine came on, by itself, 3 times in the soak cycle. The unit worked as if it was fine, with the lights on the control panel on. But it would not respond to any presses on the control panel. Does the control board need to be replaced?

OK, I am a guy who's been trying to troubleshoot the same type of problem. Got an error code 9; did what the repair guy did: unscrewed the circuit board from machine, blew out the contact terminals & wiring harness contacts with the canned air used for computers, sewing machines, etc. Thing worked - for a while, then stopped with same error code. Repeated the process, did a load of wash & dried it; same error code. So, I bought a new circuit board, installed it & voila! worked again - for a while. Now, I can't get the touchpad to light up, respond in any way. My thought is that the touchpad is probably shot. But, I don't want to keep buying the entire stacked unit over piece by piece, so I'd appreciate any help offered. This unit, to the best of my memory is +/- 20 years old. But I basically built the laundry room around it, including recessing the electrical, gas & plumbing items! Very tight space * a new unit is same width & height, but now it's 32" deep; will not be able to open/close the door to the room. HELP, anyone?!?
