A moldy and gunky bottom is normal in most cases yours doesn't look that bad. Make sure your check balls and drain area are clean and that if your drain hose has a flap or check valve that the flap is in tact or replace that helps water from coming back up in unit and being stagnant. Ohm check the heating element and if you have an amp clamp mulitmeter enter diagnostic mode and when it gets to the heating element working it should have around 6-8amps if not there's something wrong with the heating circuit this will cause a gunky dishwasher also. Cycle the dishwasher empty on the hottest setting and use 2 cups of vinegar once month in your dishwasher to help with cleaning the unit. Also realize dishwashers are not dishwashers they are sanitizers it's your job to clean the dishes not the machine so the dirtier the dishes you put it the less of a life your machine will have and the more gunk buildup. Voltage and ohm test your steam exit motor if you think it's malfunctioning during diagnostic. Good luck

Your unit may not have that exhaust fan some older units don't.....also check your water heater and make sure its set to 120 degrees or above that's what dishwashers require. Also turn on the kitchen sink till you get hot water all the way to that location of your house then turn on dishwasher that helps also.

Looks fine to me that's not bad at all to be honest...............Avoid using pod or powder detergent use gel type also don't use brands like Sun, Purex, Kirkland, Arm and hammer or any real cheap brands.
