Having exact same issue here! I see 2 very dimly lit lights on the selector knob, also if I look really close a few of the other lights (like dryness level) are lit as well... Almost like it's "trying" to come on but can't quite make it or something. The area that shows the time is completely blank. And the drum lights up if I open the door. I turn the breaker off, wait a while, turn it back on, and it starts working. Sounds like exact same problem!

It actually did this maybe a year ago, then stopped. Then recently started having the problem again. I turn off the breaker, wait a while, turn it back on, and it starts working.

When it happened last year, if I remember right my research led me to think I needed to replace the the main control circuit panel (for our model, GEW9250SU0, the part is this one). But since it started working again, didn't need to do anything so just left it. Since that part is expensive to just "see if it works", does anyone know whether that part would fix these issues that we are having? I am trying to find the information again but am not pulling up anything, dave0876 your post is the closest I've found, hopefully someone can help both of us out here! :)

I have a multi-meter and I think I have a continuity tester somewhere, is there a guide or service manual available for my model that would help to confirm / deny if it is that part going out or not?

Really hoping to avoid buying expensive parts to "trial and error" replace, hoping that someone can help to make sure at the very least it is a well informed trial and error :)

Thanks for the info! An update: a new symptom: We've gotten it to work every once in a while, it "seems" to work when it is cooler (we are in Texas summer heat, 105F + typical outside) but is also very random... The new symptom: one of the times it looked like it was going to work, I think it "spazzed out" in the middle of me entering the details of the load... It let me change the dial to choose "timed dry" but when I hit the buttons to change the time, it had no effect! So I changed the dial to other dryer options, it changed the time to match what I guess is default for each one, but still all other controls had no effect. Except when I got to a mode that say, normally does not let you change time, when I tried changing time it did the whole beep beep thingy to indicate that was not allowed! So in other words, when it would normally "let you" change the option, pressing buttons for that option had no effect, if it normally does NOT let you, it does the normal beep noises.

So it was obviously screwy, I reset the thing (turned breaker on/off) and now it was back to the old behavior of just "not working" as described in my first post.

To me that seems like the part that controls the logic of what does what is going out, so I guess would that be the main control panel edit: I mean this part?

Have not purchased yet as we are on tight budget so are drying laundry elsewhere for now... but we can now afford to get a part so I'm picking it back up again. But can still only afford one of the parts, not both if I end up picking the wrong one the first time!

Thanks, I went ahead and ordered it from here. I was tempted to order it from sears parts but I've had trouble with them in the past mixing up parts, at the time (years ago) their inventory control was a big mess, sent the wrong part several times in a row... Not to mention that the ETA would have been in November some time (about 2 months from now), for a part they said they had in stock, they [official sears parts website] really need to get their act together. But I digress, once the part gets here I'll update with whether it helps or not.

Thanks again for the advice! And hopefully this can help others that see the same problems. I noticed that the part is marked as being substituted for another part on the sears site, I wouldn't be surprised if they have long since figured out it has some design flaw and fixed it lol...
