My Frigidaire side-by-side freezer stop working 3 days ago, the temperature is between 16-28F, but fridge is working fine. Called service, and the tech guy came yesterday, he checked the temperatures with his gauge, asked me some questions, then was told that compressor is going bad, it will be gone soon and we need to replace it, it will cost $650. But this morning the freezer temperature was 0F when I opened the door.
My question is if compressor is going bad, the temperature still can swing? My understanding is if compressor is going bad, it shouldn't went back work again, is that right? Can anyone tell me? I just try to make sure that the tech guy knows what he is doing.
I really need to make decision to replace the whole thing or just repair, my Frigidaire is not cheap, it cost over $1600, and just pass 5 years.

Here are your parts Parts for Frigidaire PHSB67EHSB0 Refrigerator - AppliancePartsPros.comHere is a wiring diagram http://manuals.frigidaire.com/p...f/Anderson/240389633.pdfMy question is if compressor is going bad, the temperature still can swing? Yes. My understanding is if compressor is going bad, it shouldn't went back work again, is that right? Not necessarily. Can anyone tell me? If the repair person just asked questions and did not look at/diagnose the unit then as far as I am concerned they were just guessing. Was anything done to the unit before it started working again re: manual defrost, forced defrost, unplugged, turned off etc.? When it was too warm what was running and what was not running re: compressor, condenser fan, evaporator fan etc.? Is the compressor cycling now like it used to or is it on all the time? How do you know that the current temperature is 0? |

Thank for your reply. Now the freezer temps have been fluctuating.

Tonight it is at 19F
The information I was giving from the repairman last weekend was if the temps were fluctuating, it may NOT be the compressor. Now can you tell what is wrong?
