I have an 8 year old whirlpool that up to a few days ago worked really well. We noticed the freezer stuff getting thawed and the fridge portion becoming less cool.

The compressor is making noise and appears to be working fine. The fan is turning like normal. Checked the seals and visually looked behind and under in case anything was loose or broken but it all looks normal.

Not sure where to start. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks

Is the evaporator/freezer fan running?

Is the compressor cycling or is it on all the time other than when it is in a defrost cycle?

If it is on all the time and the evaporator fan is running then remove the rear cover in the freezer so you can inspect the evaporator coils.

If they are heavily iced/frosted over then you have a defrost problem.

If there is just frost in one area (usually where the freon enters the coils) then you have a sealed system problem.
