My wife loaded up the washer with towels and bath mats. Machine stopped agitating and spinning at some point during the cycle. The wet load was EXTREMELY heavy.

The machine will fill with water and drain. When trying to agitate or spin, you can hear the motor running but nothing is happening.

I have searched other topics for same issue. Do I need the agitator cam repair kit and the washer motor coupling?

Is there anything else I need to look for?

The switch on the lid is working correctly.

Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the motor coupler is broken.

Whirlpool 285753A Whirlpool Direct Drive Washer Motor Coupling - AppliancePartsPros.com

The new couplers have metal inserts and are more difficult to install. Use a socket and hammer to tap them onto the shafts. Make sure the plastic halves are on far enough so that they are flush with the end of the shafts.

Replaced the coupler. The old one was cracked.

The next problem is when I turn the gear by hand, the agitator turns a few times then appears to seize up.

Okay, I am a novice.

I hooked everything back up and ran a cycle successfully.
