My 9 year old Kenmore Coldspot refrigerator worked flawlessly until a few days ago. All of a sudden I heard a dripping sound and looked over at the fridge and saw water spewing out of the ice dispenser. I opened the freezer door and water was everywhere, all over the frozen food, in a puddle at the bottom of the freezer, and continually leaking from the ice maker. I shut off the water flow to the unit, collected the remaining dripping water in pans, etc. and dried up the puddles of water at the bottom. It's now dry and cold. Is this symptomatic of a problem with the water inlet valve or the ice maker unit itself? If anyone knows it would be helpful so I could order the right part (water inlet valve or ice maker unit) and replace the defective part. Thanks.

Unplug the unit.
Disconnect the ice maker water valve.
I think the wires are tan and white.
Make sure that the wires cannot short to each other or the unit.
Plug the unit back in.
If you still get water running out the ice maker then the valve needs replacing.
