When I push the start button for the dryer I hear the motor try to start but won't. The belt was taut around drum. Pulled the belt off the pulleys and could see- from the back- the motor try to turn briefly but not be able to.

I cannot find any info on the given model number, please check it.

Try turning the drum in the correct direction manually, with the belt on.
It should turn fairly easily.
If it does then your motor is probably shot.
