Need a model # to help, but looks like an old refrigerator that had a wire start device and a round overload.

Hey Rich, thanks for the quick response! It's the Magic Chef MCUF7W (upright chest freezer from 2006) that the OP had.

You will need a meter to test things, otherwise, I can't help.

Will a Fluke 112 do the trick? ;)

If the fridg has R12 in it, virtually all the compressors had the start winding pin on the bottom, left.
To confirm, measure the resistance from the top, compressor pin, to the bottom, left. then measure from the top pin to bottom, right. If the bottom, left measures higher resistance than bottom, right, you have a standard pinout. Then you can use a WR09X10106 start device.

Yes, it's got the standard pinout. I've installed the UPRO41 push-on relay/overload mentioned earlier in the thread (from APP) and it works great!

What I'm looking for is what appears to be a temperature sensor that cuts off the current to the compressor when the exterior of the compressor reaches a certain temp.

Here is the wiring diagram:

Here is the sensor I'm looking for:

It appears one end of the metal plate that does the business of the temp regulation is warped and scorched by overheating. The freezer runs well without the temp regulator in the loop so I'm pretty sure I'm down to the last part that needs replacing.

Don't think that temperature overload is available anymore, the GE start device I mentioned before contains the klixon thermal overload device.

Techound, Rich is correct, the PRO41 is a "combination" start relay and overload(thermal protector) . You don't need another overload. You should be "good to go".

Wow, guys, that's great! I'm off to give it a go (illogically, nervously, babysitting it until the compressor turns itself off ;-) )!

You are correct Joe, but the start device I recommended has a klixon that is far superior to the cutoff in this device. I have seen compressors overheat and burn out from this type device.
