I have Frigidaire side by side model FRS6LR5EM6. For the past several days the freezer has not cooled enough to freeze liquid popcicles and barley makes ice. after reading a few forumsUserPostedImage, I took off the rear panel inside the freezer. I am assuming what I am looking at is the evaporate coil unit. there was ice built up on the tubing the first 3 inches down and heavy frost , more ice on the smaller fins. I did the press the door switched test. I did notice the heater element glowing after a couple of minutes. I used a hair dryer to eliminate the rest. Is this where my problem is? what part would need to be changed if I'm in the right area? UPDATE: I have replaced the defrost thermostat its been 30 hours but I am still having the same issue. The freezer will not go below 20 degrees. should I now go after the defrost timer? When I click the door switch and shut it down I hear the ratchet sounding device. after checking the exploded view I do not have a timer but a defrost control unit, very big difference on price when doing guess work

Look in the back, if the compressor is vibrating and the condenser fan moving and no condenser clog, you probably have a bad compressor/ refrigerant leak.

fan is moving, compressor is more hot to the touch, I was told is should be warm , Would I buy myself any time by having the Freon topped off until I am able to get a compressor?

Seems like it is low on refrigerant, hopefully it will work after re-charge.
