I have Whirlpool portable dishwasher that leaks just before the rinse cycle. The leak comes from where the motor goes into the pump. Also the float switch did stay in the down position (never worked ). I think I need a float switch, but would that cause the pump to leak if the switch is not working.

Definetly replace the float switch i'm suprised your house hasn't been flooded that's what causes the water to stop filling........replace any hoses and gaskets between the parts that are leaking.....go to sears parts and look at a schematic and determine what parts you need and where exactly the leak is coming from. Good luck

make sure also when you replace the float switch pull the float part of the switch (inside the dishwasher) out it should just pop straight up and out and clean any food inside it and the surrounding area otherwise the float gets stuck and doesn't work properly...
