Maytag Neptune MAH5500BWQ door latch and another question...

Yesterday we started having trouble in that the washer wouldn't run any cycles. After messing with it a bit I discovered the "FL" error code. Some Google work helped me figure out this is most likely the latch assembly or the control module (please correct me if I'm wrong).
Suddenly everything started working again so I ran a load and when I checked on it later it had stopped (showed 15 minutes left, if I remember correctly). I don't remember the exact code but I remember it being failure to unlock rather than failure to lock. There was also water leaking from the machine. The door *was* unlocked and when I opened the door it was full of water which ran out of the door.
I quickly pulled out the laundry and that lowered the water to below the threshold of the door. I mopped up a bit and went to bed (it was after midnight by then) leaving water in the machine. I assumed that if the door wasn't fully latched that it might have loosened enough that the water was leaking around the door. I also shut off and unplugged the washer.
This morning I saw that there was still water leaking out and that the water level inside the washer was lower. I plugged it back in and it again acted normal so I ran a spin cycle to get the remaining water out.
With all that being said - my question is: Is it likely this water leaking was a result of the cycle being interrupted and being unplugged and if I repair the latch problem I'll be OK or am I likely to have another problem that may need attention and more money?
Please let me know if you need any more information.
Thanks,
Randy

In my experience if you keep having trouble with the door latch kit you will eventually burn out the control board, even thou its only part of the control board the washer won't work . I have a mah5500bww and don't know if the problems are the same. It is simple to replace door latch kit, just remove door and screws adjacent to door hinges and remove front cover. At the top of the front cover is two 1/4 inch screws that holds the top cover on , lift the top cover and there is the door latch kit, Appliance parts pro has the latch kit in stock, and can get it to you quickly, good luck with your problem

I fixed my washer problem by buying a Samsung washer.
