We noticed that the refrigerator was not cooling, removed the panel in the freezer and found the lower coils frozen solid. I thawed them back in November 08, and decided to replace both the timer and the coils/thermostat from APP. I turned the unit off, let it thaw completely, replaced the parts, turned it on for 24 hours, then checked the temp.

It did not seem that cold, so I removed the panel in the freezer and found significant ice on the lower coil again. I rotated the timer until it clicked, then the heater coil came on, melted the ice, and it started back up again in about 15 minutes.

Thoughts? Could I have received a bad timer?

External coils are clean, fan seems to work fine, no bad noises - everything else (ice maker, etc.) seems to work fine.

We've been watching this for about a month and noticing that the fridge has been getting progressively warmer. The timer has been turning, but I removed the freezer panel today and the lower coils are again - frozen solid.

I rotated the timer until it clicked, and it did go into defrost mode, the coils lit up, and the fridge came back on after a few minutes. However, the coils are not fully defrosted, so eventually it will stop working again.

Any ideas on what else might be wrong other than the timer? I have not requested to have the timer replaced as yet - but may do so.
