I have a Kenmore Elite 665.15939000 where none of the wash cycles buttons on the touch pad control panel will turn the machine on. I can get it to run the diagnostic cycle by pushing Hi Temp scrub/ air dry x 2, or sant rinse/air dry x 2, either turns on the diagnostic cycle. All lights on the machine then come on, the display shows 88 then d1 and then goes into the diagnostic cycle. However the machine goes from step 11 to step 8, 7,6,5,4,2,1, i.e. step 10 and 9 are skipped. Then the machine reverts to where the only buttons on the touch pad that respond are the ones to start diagnostics. How do I interpret the diagnostics, what does skipping 10 and 9 indicate? Or it it a control panel problem? I have the tech sheet it is part number 8524517 and it indicates the machine is made by Whirlpool.

Disconnect the user interface/touchpad ribbon or wires going to the main control board......plug unit back in or turn back on power............unit should start a drain function shortly after that or after pressing the start button. If it doesn't you have a bad user interface touchpad. If it does start a drain function you might have a main control board issue these units are infamous for it.
