I cannot find a wiring diagram for this unit so have to do some guessing.

Does the condenser/compressor fan run.
If not then odds are very high that it is not a compressor problem. On most older units the condenser fan is wired in parallel with the compressor so if the fan is not getting voltage then the compressor is also not getting voltage.

Try turning the m,ain thermostat up and down to see if it fires up.

Could also be that you are stuck in a defrost cycle.
Try turning the defrost timer cam.
Note that the defrost heater will not come on unless the freezer is below freezing. The defrost thermostat opens just above freezing and this will kill power to the heater.

I replaced the original thermostat (mechanical one) with an electronic one and set the parameters as instructed (12hrs/35mins). I tried to move the thermostat back and forth and can see the lights dim as the unit tries to come on but that's it. A small "thud" sound, a twitch from the fan for movement and that's it.

Good Call!!!!! It appears that the unit had gotten stuck in a defrost mode. I hit the test for defrost, rewired in the temp control and left the house for a bit. When I returned the unit was back on. I jumped out the temp control once again to resume my test. Lets see what happens.

Ok - the fridge is now indicating an error code of "FF". The fridge is now about 44 degrees and the freezer about 30. Compressor and evap fan are still running. Since i have the temp control jumped out. I will have to unplug it before I go to bed (don't trust it). Let me know what you think.

Not sure what FF i9s as I cannot find any tech data on this unit.

Normally it is either a Freezer Fan or a Fresh Food (temperature) error.

That may be the best bet.
I am also out of ideas on this unit as everything seems to be working OK.

I would check on what a house call is going to cost as it may not be worth fixing.
