My front load Kenmore Elite He3t washer works great on all cycles and drains completely. There have been times that, a few day later, I have noticed that the tub has been slowly re-filling with water and about to spill out. I keep the door and the detergent drawer cracked when not in use to avoid any mildew, so I just shut it all and run a drain cycle and it is fine (for a little while a least). Ideas?

An actual model number may help others help you.
It should be 3 numbers a period and then 6 to 8 more numbers.

It sounds like one of your water inlet valve is leaking.

Here are your parts
Replacement parts for KENMORE 11045972404 by Kenmore Elite | AppliancePartsPros.com
The valve is the first item on page 2 of the listing.

Here is a manual which may help.
It should be close to your unit.
L-68 Whirlpool Duet Front Loading Washers Service Manual - ApplianceDigest.com
You have to join the site to download the manual but it is free and this is a very good site for manuals and other info for the appliance repair DIYer.

So the same as above but last three are 400 versus 404.
Can you point me to where I can purchase part and how realistic it is to do repair myself?

You can do this yourself, the valve however is on the top backside which means you will be removing the housing on this unit. I have the same issue of basin fill, just not wanting to do this repair just yet. It seems it used to happen more often but after a while of shutting the ball valve off after washing it seemed to help. You could as a preventative, after Always UNPLUGGING your unit and shut the water valves off, clean out the pump catch just inside the lower panel, it looks like a opaque white cap with a lip to twist it off, once off I've found money, bobby pins, a pencil. clean it out, carefully replace and re-tighten make sure you have your threading right. I have even replaced the pump on this, it was easy.
The dryer you should be thoroughly cleaning out the lint catcher, I mean take it all apart all the way down to the exhaust fan inside the lower panel. this will extend the life of your machine. Get an old tooth brush and clean out the wet/dry sensor too. I have had my set for just about 10 years now. I have the original Pewter colored set.

Take of the top of the washer (after unplugging it, of course). Carefully remove the fill hose from the part you put detergent into (you'll see the hose coming from the back of the washer to this part, spring clips hold the parts together). Turn the water on (both hot and cold). Gently shake the end of the hose to get all residual water out. If water keeps coming out in consistent drips and never stops, it's your inlet valve.

Much later seeking answers, like I did. Just because the post is old does not mean it is no longer relevant. The thread is telling people to go buy a $50 part without telling them how to check to make sure that's the part they need. I was trying to be helpful for future viewers who come across this through internet search, again, like I did. Pardon me..
