I have a hotpoint sidebyside that stopped cooling. I have a lot of "snow" on the back wall of the freezer. I had a tech come out and he tested the defrost heater (it is good). He also tested out a relay (also good) - not sure which relay. It was in the back panel with the defrost heater. He said the only thing left is the main control board.
So, my question is, Is he right? if it is just the control board I can easily change that and save myself the labor and the parts inflation. He also mentioned that if the control board was replaced that there were 2 sensors that should be replaced also...but I didn't quite catch that I was still reeling from the sticker shock of the control board replacement.
I appreciate any help. Merc

Remove the freezer back panel and defrost the coils if heavily and completely frozen. Check the defrost heater and thermostat. Replace the heater if it has an open section inside.

So, I should replace the thermostat and not the main board?

If the evaporator thermistor is off value, it will cause partial defrost. If you want to save money, try that first.
