We were gone for a week and had water turned off. When we got home, turned water on, the freezer/ice maker started making a loud grinding sound but won't make ice. The fridge is 17 years old...can it be fixed??

Sounds like a something is jammed.
I would remove the icemaker and let it thaw/dry out overnight.
Then reinstall it to see if it will run.

Here is a manual'
I do not know if it covers your unit but the info on the icemaker should be close to your icemaker.
