Ge washer makes very loud screaming noise during agitation, but not as loud during spin. Can it be transmission or bearing

Noises are very difficult to diagnose from afar but the fact that it is happening during agitation suggests that the problem is in the transmission.

I suggest you take off the front cover and operate the machine to see if you can do a better of job of locating the noise.
