Side by side refrigerator that stops working about every six months, all ist needs to get is working is to unplug it 24-48 hours.
Had an old time repair man come look at it and he replaced a circuit board and it ran again. I don't know if it was the circuit board because it was once again unplugged for 48h
If it fails: both compartments are warm. No Ice is seen in the compartments.
I suspect something is wrong with the defrost system: timer, heater or thermostat.

I suspect something is wrong with the defrost system: timer, heater or thermostat. What is running and what is not when it fails? If it is a defrost problem then the compressor and fans will run all the time except when in a defrost cycle. Also the evaporator coils will be clogged solid with frost/ice to the point that the fan cannot pull air through them.
You can usually hear the compressor running but you should also be able to feel it vibrating.
If the fans and compressor are off when it fails try rotating the temperature thermostat up and down a bit. If the unit starts up then I would replace the thermostat. |
