Not sure on how old the washer is I just got it from a friend and the washer will not stop filling, it keeps filling and then drains and fills again unless I go and turn the dial to make it wash and it does the same thing on the rinse cycle what is wrong with it and is it something I can fix on my own

If it's simply draining while filling and the drive motor is not running, it is likely a siphoning problem due to either the drain hose is too low or you have created a seal where the drain hose goes into the drain standpipe. You cannot have an airtight seal where the hose enters the standpipe. If it fills to normal level, cuts off and then the motor comes on and drains the water out, that's another problem altogether. Let us know. Eric ![UserPostedImage](http://home.comcast.net/~fairbank56/WhirlpoolDrainSystem.jpg)

Apparently, you have a siphoning problem because the drain hose is too low or there is a seal at the drain hose standpipe hookup. This is not allowing the water to reach the level at which the water level pressure switch will engage and power the timer and drive motor.
