Works as designed about 80% of the time. Last time I caught it I opened and closed lid several times but that didn't trigger a spin. Reached in and gave the drum a little help and off it went. Three times after this it worked fine again......

Could be a stripped drive block or the clutch is giving out. Remove the agitator to inspect the drive block. Make sure the grooves in the block and tabs on spin tube are intact. If they are ok, it's most likely the clutch. Don't buy the $8 ones on amazon and other sites, they are junk and will not last. Eric

I inspected the drive block and it looked perfect. In addition - I recently replaced the motor and coupler as the steel insert coupler wiped out the square drive.
I saw a FSP clutch (285785) for $22 on ********. I also read about 3 pad and 6 pad clutches but appears all the replacements are 3 pad.
Kinda weird on this machine for two reasons - 1. it worked flawless for 2 weeks after the motor/coupler replacement although my wife thought it was acting "funny" for awhile.
2. why it works great 3-4 times in a row and then doesn't.

It's possible that a piece of clothing is caught between the tubs and gets moved around causing intermittent clutch slippage. To make sure it's not a gearcase issue, remove the cabinet, bypass the lid switch and run it with the cabinet off. When you have the no spin problem, observe the clutch hub on top of the gearcase. If it's spinning but the basket is not, then it's not a gearcase problem. The 6 pad clutch is available as well as just the 6 pad clutch band. Eric

That is a pain (running it w/o the cabinet) as it could take a week to get it to do it....
The once I caught it not spinning the drum turned very easily. I also tried stopping it when it was spinning and it wasn't stopping easily.
Will the 6 pad interchange if mine has a three pad clutch? Thinking I might as well upgrade if I do replace it.

The 6 pad clutch will work in your washer but you really shouldn't need it. I would just replace the clutch with the standard one and see what happens. When you take the gearcase out to replace the clutch and brake cam driver, grab the brake cam driver by hand and rotate it CCW which will release the brakes and rotate the tub. It should be fairly easy to rotate it. Continue to rotate it while feeling for anything trying to stop it.

Still very intermittent. Yesterday I caught it and tried opening and closing the lid but again, no go. It was making a low sounding click, not like something stripped. Not loud either. Reached in and the tub was not bound up at all. Push the lid switch down and gently gave the tub a little help and off it went.
Thinking clutch.

I am having the same problem. I have replaced the lid switch....still doing it most of the time. I have to open the close the lid and it will start to spin. please let me know what you find out. my model number is wtw5310VQ0.
