While washing a 'too-heavy' load the machine stopped agitating and spinning. I replaced the coupler and tested it after I buttoned everything up. Now we have a new symptom: when I opened the lid during the spin cycle it stopped HARD, nothing easy about it. Loud noise and it torqued the entire unit. Could this be caused by faulty workmanship on my part when I reassembled everything? Or could the coupler failure and replacement have caused a problem with the braking mechanism. I can't see that anything is out of place, but that's based on visually inspecting the unit as assembled. I have not taken it apart to inspect further as I really don't know what to look for. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Put a full load into the washer, Fill it and let it go thru the cycle, Let it spin til it stops by itself, you should be all set!!! The brake will free up and you will be good to go!!!!:)

It looks like that solved the problem. It's nice when things turn out simple. I'm used to the "one-problem-leads-to-another-multiple-trips-to-the-store-bloody-knuckles-and-cursing" theme. So, THANK YOU and thanks for this site.

Changed the coupler a week ago. Worked fine until this week when the house filled with the smell of burning rubber (kind of). My thinking is the brake is bad (which could have cause my coupling to fail) but not sure. Any suggestion?
