I have a Whirlpool front load washer that stays continuously on agitate. I'm not sure if this is a timer issue. Is there something I can do to confirm this?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

The model number you gave is for a top loader.

I apologize, it's a top loader. That is the correct model number. Thanks.

The only way to confirm is to take some live line voltage measurements at the timer. If it performs all functions when you manually advance it, but won't advance on it's own, it's most likely a faulty timer.

Eric,

The washer stays on agitate even when I manually advance it. It seems to be stuck on the agitate cycle. When I start the washer, it does not even fill with water. I checked to make sure that the water was turned on and it was.

Thanks.

Sounds like the water level pressure switch is stuck in the full position either because it is faulty or the air dome/air hose is clogged and won't release the pressure. Open the control panel and remove the hose from the pressure switch and see if it will fill without agitating. If it starts filling, turn washer off and check the air dome and hose on the lower right rear part of the outer tub.

Hi Eric,

I did what you said. It does not seem like there is any clog. When it agitates it does spray some water but does not fill up.

Thanks,
Kelley

You may have a couple of problems here. If you turn the washer off, advance the timer to drain/spin and turn it back on and it just agitates, that's likely a bad timer. This washer has the load sense switch (water level and temp controller). On some of these washers with this switch, they are supposed to start agitating without any water initially. Then they add some water. This switch is a very high failure item. There have been thousands of complaints to Whirlpool about them. You may have a faulty timer and load sense switch. The load sense switch has a circuit board inside it. Sometimes unplugging the wiring connector and replugging as well as pulling the air hose and blowing into it to clear the air dome will fix the problem. One issue with these switches is that if the lid is opened/closed (kills power) while the tub is filling, the circuit board gets damaged.

I unplugged the hose on mine and it stopped agitating and started filling... what does this mean?
