Hello.. My Kitchen Aid side by side model KSSC42QMS00 over temp light is flashing with the freezer temp flashing at 21 F. The ice maker has stopped making ice but the ice in the mold tray is frozen but the maker will not turn out the ice in the tray. The food items in the freezer seem to have softened a little.
I stepped through the diagnosis using the service manual that I got from this forum and got a 2 on the evaporator fan step but it changes to a 1 immediately after the 2 is displayed and you can hear the fan start running when it changes to a 1. I also get a 2 on the compressor step which the manual indicates the compressor is waiting for the minimum 7 minute off delay? After waiting a few minutes you can hear what sounds like the compressor chugging.
I cleaned all the dust and dirt from the coils on the top of the unit which did not help. I am thinking of replacing the evaporator fan but am not sure that will help as I suspect something might be wrong with the compressor? Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

I think the next step will be to take off the panel on the back of the freezer and check to see if the coils are frozen over. Maybe the defroster is inop?

Repairman says the heater pan on the bottom of the unit has a leak causing loss of freon. Whirlpool has the part on back order (which tells me they might be redesigning it) and it will not be available until May 11. He put in an access valve and recharged the sealed system and will return to replace the heater pan in 3 weeks when the part is available and recharge the sealed system. Hopefully it will work for 3 more weeks. It depends on how big the leak is.
