Help! My GE Side by Side is having some issues...There is ice on my frozen food and on the back wall of my freezer. The refrigerator is not as cold as it was before. I saw in a previous post that a continuity test should be done on the defrost heater and the defrost limiter. Does this apply to my situation and how are these test done?

Hi Cheryl,

All functions of your refrigerator, including the auto defrost, are operated by the main control board located on the back of the refrigerator.

The first thing we have to verify is if the fan inside the freezer works properly. Depending on this fan condition we will decide how to proceed with further troubleshooting.

We checked the fan that was located in the back of the refrigerator. It was not working. After cleaning it and banging on it a few times it started working ...not sure if it cut off or not during the night but the freezer is cold but not freezing and the refrigerator still isn't as cold as it should be.

This fan should work as long as the compressor does. If it does not then this is the culprit. This fan has to be replaced together with the main control board.

- The condenser fan motor Part number: WR60X10209
Part number: WR60X10209

- The main control board Part number: WR55X10942
Part number: WR55X10942
