A model number may help others help you.

First confirm that the freezer temperature is 0 to 5 degrees F.
The fresh food section should be about 40 degrees F.

You problem could be several things.

Some units have a thermostat controlled door that opens/closes to regulate the fresh food section.

On the following two the compressor will run all the time except when the unit is in a defrost cycle usually half and hour every 8 hours or so.
If the evaporator/freezer fan is not running then cold ait is not pushed into the fresh food section.
It cold be a defrost problem. If the evaporator coils freeze over the evaporator fan cannot cool the air properly. This is usually noticed first in the fresh food section and later in the freezer.
