That's an interesting finding. Actually, these 2 washers had been in a warehouse for a while. I knew they had their own issues but I don't know their full stories. They are obviously 2-speed washers. It's very much possible that they have been worked on with parts from other washers. A one speed switch may have been installed on this 2-speed washer. It sort of work for most of the regular wash. It will probably remain a mystery. You are certainly an expert for pointing this "abnormality" out. Most of the parts look interchangeable but I will make sure to never use this switch again. Thanks Eric!

It's not just the switch, what type of motor was this switch on, single speed or two? The motor nameplate will tell you. I suspect it is a single speed motor, otherwise there would be an extra wire from the motor (violet) with nowhere to connect it to. I only see 5 wires connected to the switch. With a 2 speed motor, there would be 6.

You are right. The motor and the switch probably have been installed together. The transmission block also may have been changed. Are there different kinds of transmission block as well? I am wondering if I can reuse any of these parts.

The first direct drive gearcases to come out in the early 80's were not of the neutral drain type but all after around 84-85 were. The washer you have was built in November of 1993. There were minor differences in the way they were built internally and I believe there were a couple different lengths of agitator shafts but essentially they are the same since the mid 80's.

Is the built date you mentioned based on the motor sticker? This date may not be for the washer I have if the motor was from another one. I don't feel like removing the motor on the running washer at this point but I will look for the sticker if I need to do it in the future. Is the built date easy to figure out with the numbers on the stickers? Thanks!

The build date is derived from the 2nd, 3rd and 4th alphanumeric's in the serial number of the washer. The C indicates 1993 and the 46 indicates 46th week of the year.
