I searched the archives but couldn't find my same symptoms.

Unit had no heat, and I replaced upper thermostat and heating element after testing them. New element had 2 prongs instead of 3 prongs and lower thermostat doesn't have the same connections either.

I installed them according the instructions that came with the thermostat kit but it trips the breaker immediately when turned on -- heat or no heat. If I unplug the heating element and lower thermostat, it runs without tripping the breaker. I assume I've miss wired something.

Any ideas? Thanks.

Repair guy came today, replaced lower thermostat, said things were hooked up correctly and still tripped breaker. He suggested I check the breaker and house wiring and that if they were ok, that it likely wasn't worth him trying to track down a short on the dryer.

Checked breaker: ok. Checked plug and I'm getting 255v out of it.

Any suggestions on where/how to track down a short?

Thanks.

Borrowed a dryer from a friend and it all works fine. Guess I have a short somewhere. Any suggestion on tracking it down or junk it?
