I had to replace a number of parts relating to the ice and water dispenser on an inherited GE side-by-side. Everything has gone smoothly, the electronics (buttons on the panel) still work, and the whole thing mechanically looks and acts like it should. The one problem (and it's a big one!) is that now that everything is back together, depressing the funnel ice dispenser no longer activates (either water or ice).

I took it apart again and I can't seem to see how depressing the piece actually would activate any electronics. Possibly I broke off some connection unknowingly when popping off the old one? How does the act of pushing on that piece actually send an electrical signal? It does not seem to have any connection to the two electronic pieces on either side with wiring going to the panel.

I don't think the issue is with the water line as I turned the ice maker back on and it produces ice still. The issue is just with pushing in the funnel ice dispenser as you normally would to activate the device and nothing happening.

I would very much value anyone's thoughts or advice to hopefully avoid calling in for a repair. Thanks in advance.

Thinking maybe it's this but I can't find any more information on this point:

Dispenser switch
If the refrigerator water dispenser is not working properly you could be dealing with a defective dispenser switch. Activated by the dispenser actuator, the switches are responsible for numerous actions including ice cube disbursement, type of ice, and water controls. The switch can be tested using an ohm meter and should be replaced if it does not reveal continuity.
