Our Kenmore has recently begun to hum or buzz. First there is a muffled snap, then it begins to hum or buzz (sometimes for a short time, seconds, others times for tens of seconds). Everything seems to working fine, both refrig and freezer. Is this some sticking contact or solenoid that should be cleaned or replaced?

Hi.

Most likely the sound you are describing is coming from the compressor area. To be specific - from the start components.
Unplug the fridge, cool down the compressor and remove the start components.Use the multimeter to check the continuity between the three compressor pins and then from one of the pins to the ground.
If there is continuity between the pins and no continuity to the ground - replace the start components
