Kitchen Aid Superba Range model kgst307hbs6 bought in 2002. F2:E1 or sometimes F2:E3 error. Keyboard is beeping by itself like I am pressing the keys though I am not. Cancel key does not cancel anymore.
On the parts side of the board next to white connectors there is a tall transistor and 2 large resistors(r33). The board is light brown in between the parts like it was slightly burnt and resistors are hot.

What do I do?

Thanks

Eugene,

Try to clean the control panel carefully using a sponge and warm soapy water or a paper towel and mild liquid soap.

If it would not help, replace the console.

Here is the Service manual.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Control panel replacement parts for WHIRLPOOL KGST307HBS6 | AppliancePartsPros.com

There is only one control circuit panel inside, not two as per diagram.....

There are TWO electronic control boards. One is the display board (aka an ERC) and another one is the power (relay) board which actually located on the back of the range but is shown as #10 on the control panel diagram. The console (user interface) has its own electronic control board which comes as a part of the console. More information you can find in the Service manual.

All diagrams and manuals posted in my reply based on the model number you provided. All diagrams as well as parts lists are provided by the manufacturer.

So which board is responsible for F2:E3/E1 error?

The first and major failure suspect is the console.

- The console (black) Part number: AP3085937
Part number: AP3085937

This seems to be a common issue since it's identical to what I'm seeing. Many thanks to Gene for the link to the manual and the advice.

For clarificaton - Gene suggests cleaning the 'control pannel' with warm soapy water. Is this the same part that is refrenced as the 'console' or someting else. If it's the console; is the advice to clean the backside where the touch sensors are? I couldn't figure out how this item works - but it does seem to be the root of the issue.

The other thing Insano brought up was the browning of the PCB board near transistor 'Q6' by the two large resistors near the white connectors. My board is showing the same thing. I tested the tranisistor with the Diode check on my DMM and it seemed to be OK, as was the nearby Diode. But has anyone tried repacing these componets? It would be a lot cheaper than replacing the console.

Finally, I cleaned the ribbon connector contacts to the circuit boar and the problem went away for a couple of days, but seems to be coming back now. Just want to root cause it as the console if that is indeed the source of the issue.

I am still getting these errors occasionally. I think the problem is sensitivity of the buttons or combination of the bad programming and sensitivity. What happens is that if I push one button I think control gets confused and thinks I pushed multiple buttons. That is how it gets to this error. If I could adjust sensitivity it would probably fix the problem.

Well at least you've got a couple of additional years on the range. I'm in the same boat - doesn't fail enough to warrent a replacement; but fails often enough to annoy me.

I'm still thinking pehaps some grime or grease got into the membrane somewhere. It would be nice if someone reading these posts would send me their failed console (I'll pay for the shipping) so I could play around with cleaning experiments.

I would do them on my console but am waiting for the problem to get worse first since there is a good chance that I'll break something in the process.

It is not the dirt. If it was I would not have this problem on a brand new panel. Maybe that transistor you think is OK is not OK. If it is out of spec it could create the problem even though it is still working.
