Fridge is 7 yrs old to be precise.

The temps in the fridge compartment don't get below 47F and freezer oscillates between -6F to +2F for no apparent reason. Called a service tech, who for $35,- "diagnosed" after measuring something in the back (I wasn't there, wife observed) the issue to be the Main Board... 2 days later I got an estimate of $360 to do the job. I opted for getting the Main Board from here for $211 instead. Awesome site BTW, excellent shipping (next day!!! for $6)... anyway... replaced the board and after about 12 hrs (overnight) temps were 52F in the fridge and 17F in the freezer... suffice it to say I got an earful of laughter and sarcasm mixed with doomsday predictions due to refrigerator not working right.

So... it doesn't look like the main board after all, I suppose ;). For grins I turned on Tc (Turbo Cool) and now 2 hrs later temps are on a downward slide (currently @ 48F fridge and 6F freezer).

Any ideas what I should try next? Other than swapping the main board back and returning the new one?

Thanks up front for taking the time to share your wisdom! :)

So a little update on what the fridge is doing...

Now after Tc (Turbo Cool) running for about 4 hrs the temps are back down to what they were before I swapped the M.Board. Specifically 0F freezer and 48F fridge. Tc is still on, but numbers haven't budged for the past hour or so. Don't want to turn Tc off because I am afraid that its going to start heating up again, but then I don't think keeping it on constantly is doing it any good.

Hi.

Most likely you should have replaced the two thermistors (fresh food and freezer) together with the board.
Check the model number, the one you have provided doesn't come up.

Simon.

Sorry... thanks for pointing out the model number typo ;) ... its PSC25MSTA SS.

But... if the termistors are the problem what's the point of replacing the board? Does it still make sense to get the termistors now, replace them and try them w/the new and old boards?

Hi.

You are absolutely right. Try them with new board first and then with the old one.
One more thing -replace all three sensors. There is one clipped on the top of the evaporator.
All the same part number Part number: WR55X10025

Thanks Simon! Just ordered 3 thermistors, here's hoping this is going to work, but hey I know it's trial and error ;) BTW, I would never have caught that 3rd one over the evaporator in the freezer compartment, thx for being specific about those.

I will update w/results when the parts come.

If changing the thermistors doesn’t help there are two more things to look for. One is to check to see if the fresh food evaporator is iced over and make sure the fan in the fresh food section is working.

The evaporator is located at the bottom behind bottom drawers. If it is iced over the fan not running could cause it or the thermistor on the evaporator is bad. If the coils are iced over replace the fresh food evaporator thermistor (same thermistor as your others) and check to see if the fan is running.

There are pictures and more info on this page that should help.

Thanks Applianceman! I am studying the site as we speak. Appears to be chock full of great info and very detailed step-by-step instructions on what/how to check various things. Exactly what I needed!

Best,

Chris

Ok, a bit of status update...

1. Received the thermistors (man I love this site! ordered Thursday late PM EST, and got them in hand Sat @ 2 pm!),

2. Went on to check out the fresh food section evaporator and the fan.
- Fan is spinning
- Evaporator is not frosted over

My plan: to proceed, as planned, and replace the 2 thermistors in the fresh food section (at first, before I move on to the freezer). 1, behind the evaporator, 2 on the left wall behind a small grill plate.

But(1): If both the evaporator and evaporator fan are working in fresh food compartment, then... range of possible faults has just shrunk. Down to... if I understand correctly: 1 - thermistors (which I plan to replace), 2 - m.board?

But(2): the m.board was replaced three days ago, so it can't be the problem any more no? Does this really only leave one or both thermistors as possible fault points?

I guess I'll find out... I'll be swapping the thermistors w/new ones next.
