The pilot light stays lit but does not swell when the oven knob is turned on. It does not light. I cleaned the pilot and around the tube above with a small wire brush. There was alot of white ash powder. It still does the same. This unit came with the home new. Serial number 5c814477175 and gas ans z21.18-1984 my oven is using lp gas.

Hello David,

Very likely the problem is a bad gas safety valve or the oven thermostat sensing bulb. I'm not able to provide more accurate advice because the model number you posted does not come up. Very likely due to it's age. I would recommend to call the APP customer service because they have access to such old models diagrams.
