Hi -
Hope someone can help. I have a Whirlpool side by side fridge and the ice dispenser flap is really loose and doesn't close properly (noticed frost forming). Seems something has broken. I can wedge it back in place, but feel it really should be repaired/replaced.

Is this something that can easily be done? What part/parts would need to be replaced? I believe that the front panel can be pried off from the bottom, but need to know what's in store for me once this is done. Imagine new parts should be on hand prior to pulling this thing apart! Any ideas?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Monica

Hi.

The most common problem can be taken care off by replacing the ice door kit Part number: 8201649
Part number: 8201649

Use the video clip for the instructions.

Here are the breakdown diagrams and Dispenser Front parts for Whirlpool GD22DFXFW00 - AppliancePartsPros.com

Post the results.

Hi Simon,

Successfully replaced the ice door kit, and now it seems that when I push the lever for ice, nothing happens. No noise, No ice! No nothing!

The unit has been making ice, but it is not dispensing from the door. Changing the broken door kit didn't seem to help that. Clogged? Frozen? Something else broken? What have I missed besides a trip to the appliance store? HELP!

Hi, Monica.

You need to check the installation and if the lever is engaging the microswitch. The pin which is holding the switch may be broken. In that case - replace the bracket

Hi Simon,

Thanks for this information. How do I check to make sure this microswitch is being engaged? Where is this microswitch located? Can you point it out on the schematic, along with the bracket which may need replacing?

Hi, Monica.

Open the dispenser and you can't miss the bracket (look at the picture I posted)The switches are mounted in the corners. The bracket is #15 and the switch #14 on the diagram.

Simon.
